The text from "a year in letters" has an old fashioned style to it which hints that the text might be of a historical genre. The author might of chosen this style of typeface because her text his about letters her grandparents wrote to eachother in WWII. The author may have chose to include scans of original letters rather than typewritten transcripts to help preserve the authenticity of the letters.
